The inability to use full-screen operation is probably bug #24308.

I'm not sure if this is a separate error or a secondary effect of that bug.

Also affects MechWarrior 4: Vengeance and its demo:

The /gosnodialogs command-line option will suppress some of them.  If they are
not suppressed the game will throw an exception and abort (probably another
bug).
