I believe the bug causing the crash is the same as the one in
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37906.

I tested this assertion on a slightly different Tax Act 2012 version,
downloaded from this (shady) web site:
http://faculty.kfupm.edu.sa/coe/marwan/richfiles/temp/

$ sha1sum ta12stdw.exe 
636bab79cd37b0bf1d366d46934ad3d82a691d57  ta12stdw.exe
$ du -sh ta12stdw.exe
