This should be fixed since Wine 1.7.32 by multiple patches. 
45d530461bf29c953f5f4532cc0e917b4c4fc296 minimizes the game window,
f6dde7062413a1dfdd71acc92c5178ac66f3ade0 restores the screen resolution and
09fda3b805b2defeb04f8df6ca7acbe25f2ae10d tells the game to stop rendering.
