I'm not so sure this is fixed.

I've had this a couple of times installing another application, the setup
program wouldn't result in any desktop launchers being created - and
winemenubuilder would choke with exactly the same messages as joshua has put.

However I'm finding it very difficult to recreate, sometimes it does it -
sometimes it doesn't.  I'm on 1.7.34 as well.

I'd say this is an intermittent fault, possibly something to do with timing? 
I'm not sure.
