It is interesting to note that after subsequent searches I have found that the
codeweavers.com usage of Wine states that Family Tree Maker 2014 is known to
Not run on Wine, and has not been tested on Linux for their product.

I have tried adding numerous Windows components via winetricks, and the FTM
install always fails at the same point. I have tried these installs on both a
32 bit and a 64 bit Ubu14.04, each on a 64-bit cpu, both fail.

Since Ancestry.com sells both a Windows And a Mac version, and building a Linux
version from the Mac version should be a matter of developer system choice, and
after a few years of dealing with a rather prickly Ancestry.com software group,
I must conclude that company has some hostility for Linux? Strange.

Unless you know something here, it would appear vmwarePlayer or similar and a
copy of Windows is essential for running FTM?
