I have this problem as well on Kubuntu 15.04 (backports ppa enabled, fresh
install on a new empty drive) trying to run Hero Labs with Wine 1.7.38 from the
WineHQ repositories.  I also have this issue when installing 1.6 on the
official (K)ubuntu repositories.  

To test for this issue you can also run the command:
wine iexplore.exe http://www.winehq.org/

it will also generate the error:
err:winediag:schan_imp_init Failed to load libgnutls, secure connections will
not be available.

The work around above does fix the issue for me.
