I got this exact error message from a different game based
on the same engine (due to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISImotor ):

Volvo - The Game (free to download)

I got it when starting Config.exe.
This system uses the free nouveau driver instead of the nvidia binary one.

Installing the package libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 (debian) solved the issue and
configuration could be done. (Additionally had to set VideoMemorySize
registry key to get into a race.)

Probably this could be also Luke's issue.
