I don't know. However:

Yes, wine from openSuse's repositories is 64-bit.

I would guess that it is because when I built wine from git and tried running
it without removing ~/.wine directory created earlier by 64-bit wine from repo
it complained something about 64bits and refused to run.

Does that make sense?
