I wouldn't put too much stock in what that site says.  It has completely bogus
information about the object file format, for example.

We have no problem linking a final executable as non-position-independent.  The
wineloader is linked that way, using -Wl,-no_pie.  So, I don't know what
they're talking about regarding their trivial hello.c program.  Of course, they
are talking about ancient versions of Xcode, so there may have been a problem
that's since been fixed.

I think that Michael's conclusion that OS X just doesn't support non-PIC
dynamic libraries is correct.  I don't know if anything can be done about that.
