Thanks Olivier, that's what I was looking for!  I downloaded the wine 1.9.24
sources, added the two patches from github that you indicated, built and
installed i386 and amd64 binaries, and used winecfg to make
UbisoftGameLauncher.exe detect Vista.  Now Uplay works again - as do Steam
games that require uplay like "Child of Light".  Hopefully these patches will
soon make their way into forthcoming versions.
