I too have this game on Steam but can't reproduce the problem, tested on Nvidia
hardware (drivers 387.34 and with nouveau/mesa 17.2.5).

Could you get a terminal output, perhaps it will shed some light on what's
going wrong on your side:

What video card and driver are you using?
