This appears to be a DirectDraw issue...
Looking at what DLL's the application loads/requires and subsequent API calls.

Attached file:
export WINEDEBUG=+timestamp,+tid,+loaddll,+ddraw

The main application window is painted. After a long pause it is turned from
blank/black to purple. Then the application terminates with a "Memory access
violation" popup.
