patch, dont know if its correct

The crash in advanced mode seems to be same bug as bug 39209. 
I made a patch based on Focht`s  analysis there, but i dont know if its
correct; with the patch the crash in advanced mode is gone and the app starts
fine. 

Maybe someone with more knowledge about this area could review patch?
