It has worked without setting anything in all previous versions of Wine up to
the last RC.

If transcendence detects being run on Windows XP it uses GDI mode. This is not
recommended because it severely limits the graphics capabilities of the game.

Anything above Windows XP and Transcendences uses DirectX. This enhances the
game experience much.
