Both demo and full version (GOG) works fine with 2.9 here, no matter how many
times I launch it.

Incremental Rendering must be turned off, or software rendering used instead.

There's also a Mesa bug (Gallium drivers) that affects this game when loading a
saved game, see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94168 for
discussion and workaround.
