Sorry for the delay.

You're right, I didn't test the historical battles, which are just
predetermined battle scenarios. They do work without crashing, though I still
observe #42555 in wine-staging.

No, what crashes is the full campaign. After selecting "choose a clan" and
"start game", the game will try to load the campaign map and then crash. This
is 100% reproducible with a clean profile.

Note that, the game is known to not work well with modern Windows, but I also
observe the crash when the windows version is set to Windows 98. I'm also using
the CD version. I'm not sure if the Steam version changes anything to help
compatibility with modern Windows.
