Adding to this so that less forum-hopping is needed:

All symbol fonts work [correctly]. If you choose Symbol or Wingdings or
Webdings as your desired font, they will work. So it seems that the line
causing the problem [might be]

as though Wine doesn't interpret the SYMBOL_CHARSET field the same way that
Windows does.
