The patch is trivial and I've being using it for quite some time without too
many issues.  However I've only used it on a small set of programs, thus may
still crash programs that currently work.

Since staging has this patch already, currently disabled, since it caused a
regression with stream (which is now fixed).  I'll include the patch after the
next release and hopefully people will have time to test and report any
crashes/regression before we attempt to upstream.
