I am the one who claimed Screamer works on Wine 2.4. Alas it is now clear to me
that it is only part of the story.

Yes, I downgraded the Wine version on my main PC (Mint 17.3) to 2.4, and the
Screamer main menu is still completely unresponsive as described above.

I have a EEE netbook also running Mint 17.3. Dare I swear here? It has Play on
Linux installed and the Wine version is 2.4 for the sandbox in which Screamer
runs. This installation of Screamer runs just as I observed it running on
native Windows, main menu and all. Unfortunately I have yet to find the time to
record and compare all the files, dlls etc in both system directories, so
cannot advise on the differences if any.
