After further inspection, I don't see anything wrong related to the
ID3D11Device1 ID3D11DeviceContext1 ifaces. The application only seems to use
UpdateSubresource1 from the new functions provided by those interfaces, at
least without extended running.

Since there are other graphical errors after this, but I don't think are
related to this bug, which is just about the game not starting, I have openend
a new bug at bug 45077
