For winehq-devel PPA install
sudo chmod -x /opt/wine-devel/bin/wine-preloader

For winehq-stable PPA install
sudo chmod -x /opt/wine-stable/bin/wine-preloader

wine64-preloader remains untouched.  No idea why, or what it is about, 32-bit
wine-preloader that causes this fault.

Hopefully this trouble-shooting will be of assistance to others.
