Ah, you are correct. The reason I got that flubbed up was because of some
similar issues with audio that have affected the Wolfenstein games.
This Skyrim SE ticket describes in detail test results that a user had posted
on the Wolfenstein: The New Order page a while back, have a read:

I'm curious if the root cause of the audio attenuation problem in Skyrim will
fix some of the crashing issues noted in Wolfenstein. Some input from a
developer would be appreciated.
