I'm not sure where you get that impression. The patch is still staged, still
applies cleanly against trunk, and in fact hasn't been modified since its
addition. Nor is there any analogous solution in trunk.

For what it's worth, my guess as to the proper solution to this bug is to
rewrite dinput on top of HID, so that it doesn't use hooks.
