I have a laptop with Fedora 27, the broken behavior is the same there (although
with sound=pulse the broken sound sounds a little different).

I'm checking the 4K HELL CIRCUS difficulty specifically (the one the link in
the OP points to), some other difficulties play without issues (presumably
because there aren't long hitsounds there).
