[Bug 44208] Crystal Reports XI crashes after editing a field

I did successfully make it talk to our Oracle database after installing oracle
client inside the prefix and setting some environment vars in regedit. I got it
to successfully prompt for parameter values after I installed ie8 (this fixed
some unimportant weirdness on its home page too).

However--and I didn't notice this before--it doesn't draw any number fields,
nor the placeholder texts that represent them. They appear as invisible both in
the designer, the preview, and even the number formatting dialog. Behavior is
same with and without riched20. Should I create a new issue for this and leave
this one to focus on the crash on editing?
