Can you reproduce the problem with the demo?

I see something similar using a Nvidia card with the proprietary drivers, but
it doesn't seem to be a regression to me because Wine 1.9.x or Wine 2.x also
have the problem.
The problem only occurs when the game is running in 16-bit color depth. In
GOTHIC.INI, under the [Video] section there is an option to change between 16
and 32-bit color depth:
zVidResFullscreenBPP=
Items in the inventory are shown properly for me when
'zVidResFullscreenBPP=32'.
