The developer/installer person said they indeed wanted this working in wine but
had never gotten to work, so I think they'll be very excited about this.  I'm
betting there are probably other missing pieces but until they actually try it
out there is no way to know.  I think they must have people who want this
installed but are using linux so they never got it to work.

I have no clue how you traced everything back!  many years ago now i could have
done that on mainframes or minis but i have long forgotten that as well. 
Sometimes I wish I could get back into the type of tech support you are doing,
then the rest of brain says I'm way too old for it now :) :)
