At this point I have 2 brand new install on 2 different systems.
With mint 17.3 it works and with mint 18.3 it does not work.
The setup is alsmost the same, for both systems so I don't think the setup has
something to do unless there are specific things for mint 18.3
What I say is that the change of environment (I mean going from mint 17.3 to
mint 18.3) implies differences in the environment.
And the problem I have is (very probably) due to this.
Possibilities are :
- I need to add one or several system libraries which were present by default
in 17.3 but have been removed in 18.3 , but which ones ??
- one or several linux components have changed in 18.3 and wine does not know
that
Please don't forget that the problem is also present with debian 9.6. 
Next step will be to try to compile wine.
