[Bug 46173] Used e-Sword successfully a few months ago, but when I try now I get a Program Error.

I have spent 12 to 15 hours trying to update Wine on my Linux Lite laptop.
Synaptic thinks the ancient version is the latest. I have tried uninstalling
Wine and reinstalling. Tried everything I could find on and internet search. No
help so far. The problem seems to be that neither Synaptic nor any of the
online posters know where the latest Wine software packages are. I have tried
many places.
I really want this to work, so I would appreciate any help you can give.
