I tried Italian version, I can not reproduce this bug.
It seems a bug specific to AOE III Steam french version.
I found which audio file crashes the game: TUTO1040.mp3. 
If I rename TUTO1040.mp3 to TUTO1040.mp3.bak or delete it, the tutorial does
not crash anymore.
I don't know if it's a wine bug or a bad audio file (officially provided by
steam).
