I can confirm that I was finally able to make this work on my son's Ubuntu
18.04 (64bit) machine with manually compiled wine-staging 4.14 + Andrew's patch
from the comment #39 + the second patch from the bug 45667

I used https://wiki.winehq.org/Building_Biarch_Wine_On_Ubuntu as a general
guide on how to compile custom wine. On contrary to what that guide suggests, I
had to have the default wine-staging package installed too (via apt) to get all
the required dependencies present.

I have Windows 7 selected as the version in winecfg and I used winetricks to
install dxvk, vcrun2017 and corefonts.
