The attached hack works around the problem for MRAC.

For the proper fix, we'd need server handle code to be aware of kernel threads
acting as user threads. I experimented with that at some point and even got a
hackish version working with MRAC, but it requires server-wide changes and
tends to break more things than it fixes. It still requires much more work.
