all i can say is, the custom ddraw.dll is in the same directory as the exe,
and if i start the game with just: 
"wine Mortal\ Night.exe"
then the normal game starts without the mod being detected. plain game.

now, if i use this:
"WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" wine Mortal\ Night.exe"
the mod is being detected, and i see a couple of settings dialogs for it as
shown in the attached screenshots. maybe i'm not doing it right but that's how
i got so far as having the mod getting detected.
