Also affected: Battle Realms, games from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, Risen,
Gothic 3, Freelancer.

Freelancer has a free demo which can be used to reproduce the problem:

The demo quits after the splash screen due to this bug.

Note: intro videos are not playing, you may want to add a semicolon ";" in
front of the lines in the [Startup] section in freelancer.ini to skip those
movies and for faster startup. E.g.:
