I think we'd be happy to receive patches fixing this, but it's not something
that's straightforward to fix. The other bug you found has some more discussion
about the various considerations, but my best guess would be to make the
explorer process responsible for all modesetting instead of individual
application processes, at which point it could keep track of unclean exits.
