This works fine for me now in current git; tested version firefox-79.0

Preferences is accessible and loading webpages works without any work-arounds.

(Just tested rather quickly, no thorough test but the problem this bugreport is
about is fixed)

(Note: Don`t know what exact commit fixed this)
