Witt the command
Xephyr -screen 800x600x8 :2 &DISPLAY=:2 wine VF2DEMO.EXE
the game starts

So the game crashes because of this line
024:fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 16
to 8
