i played this back in 2003 with my brother and noticed "mismatch in
synchronization data" pretty commonly when you play with AI on two windows xp
machines. This is to say that's normal behavior when playing with players and
AI. When only playing with humans and who aren't cheating (memhacks or anything
out of the ordinary) it should not desync. 

I haven't noticed any sync issues up to wine-5.7
