Thank you!  That is what I considered doing at first, but in the end decided to
go with what the Bugs article [1] at the wikki suggests.

(I was a bit surprised to see no mention of compressing, though now that I look
at the FAQ article [2], it is mentioned there (though the size restriction is a
bit out of date).)

It might be a good idea to mention it on the page where the attaching happens.
