French keyboard layout without Euro

I have no problems to type an Euro sign here (€) and in a terminal. (€)

xev does not seem to complain about it :

    state 0x90, keycode 26 (keysym 0x20ac, EuroSign), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 3 bytes:  "€"
