Files in "/dev/" are not normal files. For example you can do a 
"cat /tmp/tmp > /tmp/tmp.2", but try a "cat /dev/urandom > /tmp/urandom".

For example a compress or checksum calculation window application
should have surely problems to handle this type of files.
