Did you install the development libaries when Solaris was installed?  If 
you did not that would explain why you are not linking string.h.

One other thing that might help is to try using the current release or 
CVS.  Based on the date of the wine you are attempting to use, it has been 
almost 2 years, many changes have been done in that time.

Winelib will not be installed if the make failed.
