Overriding the check for ownership of a prefix

Wine checks the ownership of the $WINEPREFIX directory right? So 
wouldn't touching a file in $WINEPREFIX before starting Wine work? 
system.reg would be a good candidate. Alternatively, create/delete some 
other file.
