Can't build crosstests

Hello,

I'm trying to build the tests for windows, but I can't get it working anymore. 
I have mingw installed and it does work for cross-compiling with code-blocks, 
but wine says it's broken.
The configure script fails with
>checking for i686-w64-mingw32-gcc... i686-w64-mingw32-gcc
>checking whether i686-w64-mingw32-gcc works... no

An idea how to find out what's going wrong?
