I think if you do

          msg_data->rawinput.mouse.data = input->mouse.data;

          queue_hardware_message( desktop, msg, 0 );
      }

+    if (device && device->flags & RIDEV_NOLEGACY)
+        return FALSE;

      for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE( messages ); i++)

instead of

          msg_data->rawinput.mouse.data = input->mouse.data;

          queue_hardware_message( desktop, msg, 0 );
+

+            return FALSE;
      }

      for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE( messages ); i++)

then it would work the same for this patch (even if you keep it first in 
the serie), and you will not have to change it again later on.
