Unicodify System Metrics

Here's a small patch to convert system metrics to unicode along with some 
small formatting fixes. I plan on doing some work with system metrics and 
parameters and thought I'd get this out of the way first.

Changelog:
* converted system metrics to unicode
* small formatting fixes to bring metrics code inline with the remainder of 
system parameters
