This patch shouldn't be applied anymore.  I incorporated these changes
(per Ivan's suggestion in IRC) into my first patch of the 13 that were
just sent.

So, please ignore this one, and apply Ivan's 1-5 and then my 1-13 on
top of that.  Thanks.
