quartz: Optimize the processing thread to fetch one sample while processing another

I had to move from APC to normal thread because otherwise nasty things
would happen: An APC requesting termination would run inside another
APC where it's playing a file, this would cause it not to finish
properly and make the whole thing deadlock because a lock was never
released.
