Font problems (wrong font is used) (sorry for the delay Gerard!!)

Gerard, there have been posts in the past suggesting that xfont.c
needs work.  My company is in a position where (1) we are about to
gain some benefit from Wine, so (2) we would be willing to contribute
something to its development (money not technical expertise), and (3)
we are having problems with fonts.

I posted a question earlier this week and have not received an answer:
Would it be possible for us to cause the font mapping stuff to be
improved by contributing to the development?  If so, how would we go
about doing this, as we don't have the technical expertise to define
what needs to be done?
