wine + halflife recommendations...????

Hello!

I own HalfLife : Generations
and I installed the latest stable wine :Wine-20010305.tar.gz 
But I cant get it to work...it starts the console and that makes me 
happy...but then everything crashes...sigh...
I have tried sevral times to get wine to work with HalfLife...but have 
never succeded...why??? I have however gotten Starcraft and Soldier Of 
Fortune to work...so I dont consider myself a lost case...:)
I use suse 7.0, kde 2.1, XFree86 4.0.2, Nvidia latest drivers...

could anyone recommend a wine version...??
Or gimme a hint...(yes I have read the lhl howto...)
